Flow
Flow brings together radio and reading about music in which the rhythm of speech matters as much as the drum pattern.
We approach hip-hop through several points of entry: the voice, the DJ's work, the drums and the musical backing. You can start with a favourite track, then listen more closely to the techniques that make it recognisable.
The journal explains musical ideas through the experience of listening. Rather than prescribing a ranking of artists, it offers observations about flow, pauses, timbre and the way a vocal part interacts with a beat.
Each station has its own selection of music, broadcast language and approach to programming. Rap broadcasts may contain explicit language; check the broadcaster's official website for details of its format and playlists.
How the selection works
We group stations by musical style and publish articles to help you hear more. Each station links to an official source; the broadcaster determines its programmes and schedule.
